Main Argument

Tourism is important because it boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs, develops the infrastructures of a county, and plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens. The number of jobs created by tourism in many different areas is significant. “Since its Conception in the 1920’s, Colonial Williamsburg has served as an cultural landmark,”(Souther, 2012,p.53). When covid hit, the whole world was hurt, but especially places like Williamsburg whose whole foundation rests on tourism.

Attractions in Williamsburg, like Busch Gardens, were hit the hardest due to them fully closing rather than operate at half capacity. “Busch Gardens Williamsburg remained closed in mid-July, the height of tourism season,”(Daily Press, May 2021) Park President Kevin Lembke says “COVID-19-driven state limitations on attendance don’t make it financially feasible to open the amusement park… When Busch Gardens Williamsburg reopened, he implemented many of the same safety features he saw at the park in Florida: visitor temperature checks, required face masks, social distancing, heightened cleaning and added signage,” (Daily press may 2021 publish date)
